Its a first weekend / Sunday of 2008 and I finally decided to make my voice "Audible" rather "readable" to people like me. It was a strong urge for years. And it has became new years resolution.

Recently purchased a Phillips Flat Screen 42" HDTV from Target Stores.
the model shows mfg date of July '09.
Brought it home hooked it up, no picture. Just a black screen telling me on the screen Phillips!!! Called Phillips to get help. They sent in a repairman who said it would have to have a new part. Repairman comes back a few days later and installs the new part. We then get a picture but a hum. Repairman calls Phillips, and Phillips calls me to say they are sending a new TV replacement. Few days later a hugh shredded box arrives UPS ground!!!! Even the UPS driver couldn't believe anyone would send electronics ground freight. Took the TV out of the box and it is not a new tv, but a "refurbished" tv. The warranty of 1 year had been changed on their used tv to 90 days parts and labor. When I called them they said they do it all of the time because they "reserve the right" to replace with a "refurbished" tv.
I let them know I was not impressed with the way this had been handled. Then they said I would have to send them proof of purchase to go back to the original warranty of 1 yr. I did as they ask and they finally called to say the warranty had been restored to 1 year from date of purchase. BUYERS BEWARE. THIS IS THE NEW ATTITUDE OF TREATING CONSUMERS FOR ELECTRONICS AND PROBABLY EVERYTHING ELSE. YOU HAVE TO GO INTO COMBATIVE MODE TO GET ANYTHING DONE. AS FOR EXTENDED WARRANTIES, READ THE FINE PRINT THEY ALSO STATE "WE RESERVE THE RIGHT", WHICH WHEN TRANSLATED MEANS THEY CAN DETERMINE THAT YOU WERE ABUSING THE TV THEREFORE THEY OWE YOU NOTHING AND THE WARRANTY COULD BE RENDERED NULL AND VOID. THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING A LOT SO IF YOU BUY FLAT SCREENS MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU PURCHASE YOU HAVE THE STORE YOU BUY IT FROM HONOR YOUR PURCHASE. I HAD TO DO ALL OF THE WORK. TARGET WOULD DO NOTHING!! DO NOT BUY ANY ELECTRONICS FROM TARGET. JUST GO TO WAL MART. THEY WILL HELP YOU.
